"Creative competencies are vital for problem solving and for developing ways of adapting knowledge to new contexts. When teachers use effective practices, they maximize the probability that students will be actively engaged in instruction. Student engagement is one of the most well-established predictors of achievement; when students are more engaged in academic instruction, they tend to have greater academic and social success.
Another essential element which is one of the most powerful influences on learning and achievement, giving evaluative feedback. When a teacher receives feedback on the progress that students are making, this changes the next step in their teaching. When a student receives feedback on the progress they are making, this changes the next step in their learning.
In this workshop, we will work to develop competency in the classroom and how formative assessment only works if the teachers are giving students feedback and using that feedback to inform their practices."
