Problem-Solving Approach in Primary Mathematics to Develop Numerical Competency

In this session, participants will learn how to define high quality learning of primary Mathematics and to understand what it takes to create effective lessons. It also aims to help participants re-think the role of school to develop thinking and problem solving skill through Mathematics learning. Learning theories are also discussed such as J. Bruner, R. Skemp and Z. Dienes to help the participants understand how primary students can learn mathematics and achieve conceptual understanding for mastery.

Inquiry Approach in Primary Science to Foster Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)

This session will enable Science teachers to gain an overview of the aims and goals of the Primary Science to better grasp the learning theories and

strategies underpinning the learning of Science. Participants will acquire better understanding in the nature of Science and the use of Science as Inquiry approach to arouse students' interest and motivation to learn Science. Effective teaching ideas are also included to give practical examples how to

make Science learning more meaningful and productive as well as develop higher order thinking skills.

Develop Literacy Skills for Primary Learners through English Language Teaching

UNESCO defines literacy as the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written (and visual) materials associated with varying contexts. English Language Teaching can play a strategic role in cultivating the development of literacy skills, while offering exposure to the primary learners on one of the most-widely spoken languages in the world.  This session will share some principles of effective teaching in English, so the teachers can successfully develop their learners’ literacy skills in English and help them to acquire the language.
