The Power of Scaffolding – A Teaching Strategy to Improve the Learning Output in Mathematics at Primary Level

When the scaffolding is tailored to the needs of students in tackling a meaningful and challenging task, the students will be able to accomplish the task, even when the task is non-routine. However, to achieve this, teachers are required to change their role in the classroom from the sole provider of mathematical knowledge to become the facilitators in the development of students' mathematical constructions, while employing scaffolding.

This session will help teachers to apply appropriate teaching strategies and scaffolding technique during the math teaching-learning process. It will also discuss the strategies to support students in learning some relevant topics in mathematics at primary level by using step-by-step scaffolding until they can build conceptual understanding and solve non-routine problems.

Promoting 4Cs in Primary Science to Facilitate a Deep Learning Experience

The relevance of the 4Cs in promoting deep learning is attracting the attention of teachers in recent years. Critical thinking, Communication, Creativity, and Collaboration (4Cs) are fundamental life skills that students are expected to acquire and develop while they are learning at school. The 4Cs are often embraced in theory yet stump teachers in practice. This session will help the teachers to better understand why the 4Cs will facilitate and promote a deep learning experience for the students, rather than a rote learning.

While their importance is often overlooked, speaking skills are essential to effective interactions. After all, the probably most effective way to communicate is through speaking. Hence, speaking skills are indeed a critically important method of communication to convert thoughts or ideas into spoken words. This training aims to offer practical insights to further design meaningful and interactive speaking activities for students at primary level.
