Ultimaths modules are designed to equip teachers with creative and applicable teaching skills. Teachers will gain exposure to various pedagogies and methodologies in teaching mathematics, including the use of concrete materials (manipulative tools), academic games, hands-on activities, and techniques for implementing cooperative learning in groups.
Highly Recommended for: HOD, Head of Curriculum, Maths Coordinators, Maths Teachers (new and experienced).
Consists of 7 essential topics:
Whole Numbers
Engaging activities & stimulating logical thinking in teaching whole numbers
Fractions
Concepts of fractions, a concrete approach in teaching fractions & developing creative thinking.
Decimals
Strategies in understanding decimals and using manipulatives in its operation.
Geometry
Exploring students' visual intelligence in geometry & exploring quadrilaterals.
Measurement
Enhancing students' understanding of meausurement and experimenting with hands-on activities.
Data Handling
Collecting, presenting and interpreting data in various forms: pictographs, bar graphs, line graphs, circle graphs. Reading numerical information found in real-life setting.
Word Problems
Polya's Principle in solving word problems & exploring various strategies to solve them.
The Goals
- To master mathematical concepts, materials, and pedagogy covering all the topics in the primary school mathematics syllabus
- To be able to apply Singaporean curriculum methods and approaches in teaching mathematical concepts, which are: CPA (Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract), Spiral Progression, and Focus on Problem Solving.
- To develop skills of using concrete materials (manipulative tools), as well as making mathematics learning fun and interactive.
The Process
The training will be held for 40 hours (2 hours per session). Participants will get involved in activities that provide plenty of opportunities for teachers to hone their ability to understand and teach the concepts of Mathematics at Primary Schools level
